Are we spiritual equals?

Yes!

We are.

Absolutely and without question ... no doubt ... We are equals.

If you belong to Jesus, having accepted Him ... then we are spiritual equals. I don't need to know anything else, for nothing else matters.

However, I can't help but be reminded how often I hear a different tune. How is your scripture memorizing? How about your witness? Oh dear, you don't have a church? Has God blessed you like me? What about maturity? ... etc ...

Seems like we have a mess, doesn't it. Well, lets not let others drag us into their unbelief. The moment you detect this elitism attitude, just have this question ready to ask: Provided that we are both Christians, are we spiritual equals?

You have reason to worry if they even hesitate for a second in their answer. The most important person to ask would be your pastor ... and then the other church leaders. Let me know what happens if you do this ... I don't attend church meetings where one clergy-type person is in charge, and I only hang out with people that answer the question as I do, so I don't often get the chance to ask it.

I guess I have been very blessed unlike so many with Pastors. All I have had and all I know are very much preaching everyone being the same or equal.

In fact they get offended if any put them on a pedestal but I know a handful at most so it is hard for me to understand the elitism. I would walk out of a church if there was a hierarchy in there Christianity.

My experience my be the exception though.

Be loved you are

There is definitely "spiritual elitism" in many churches, ... especially the very fundamentalist variety.
"The Pastor as CEO" is under judgement. I pray that they are refined and get it right. - some of them are trapped by their "vocational professionalism." ["I've got my turf to protect, ... so submit, ... or else"] !

Many pastors simply struggle to get their congregations to grow into discipleship and real maturity. ... but the REAL problem there is in the mode and manner of organization: DISCIPLESHIP HAPPENS IN CLOSE-QUARTER HOME-FELLOWSHIPS, ... not, ordinarily, in nice, neat little rows of pews with the pastor as commander-in-chief.! Read how they "met" in the Book of Acts. - THAT has ALWAYS been GOD's means and manner of establishing loving and accountable communities of Christians who are not under someone's thumb of series of "programs."
THE REAL, LIVE, LIVING CHURCH belongs in the home.

btw: IN CHRIST: we are ALL *definitely* spiritual equals.

in fact: "let each esteem *the other* more highly than themselves." !

honor due to elders is wonderful and right, ... but remember: the elder is there as a protector *and as a servant.* ... not 'a master' or a hotshot, ... or a salaried employee/employer!

Oops! ... there goes 95% of "organized" religion!
